Implementation of the Kandal Plant Protection Scheme through the financial support of the Blue charter Project Incubator of the Commonwealth of Nations.

Conceptual proposals are being sought from Commonwealth countries for funding for continental plant conservation through the 2023 Commonwealth Blue Charter Project Incubator. For that, 02 conceptual proposals submitted by Sri Lanka have been selected by the Blue charter Project Incubator of the Commonwealth of Nations. Accordingly, the Institute has decided to provide financial support to a project to study the carbon footprint of continental vegetation in Sri Lanka and to map the continental vegetation and seagrass network using satellite and drone technology. The Cabinet has approved the idea submitted by the Minister of Forestry and Forest Resources to implement the said schemes through the Department of Forestry and Forest Conservation under the supervision of the Ministry of Forestry and Forest Resources Conservation and to enter into contracts for the same.

Allotment of a piece of land located in Homagama, Pittipana area to Sri Lanka Electricity Board

Due to the increased demand for electricity for the urban development project near Science and Technology City, a request has been submitted by the Sri Lanka Electricity Board to the Urban Development Authority to provide a piece of land named Mahenawatta located in Homagama, Pittipana area for the construction of a sub-station in the said area. Accordingly, the Cabinet has approved the proposal submitted by the Minister of Urban Development and Housing to provide the identified 02 acres 03 Route 15.41 Parchers land to the Sri Lanka Electricity Board on lease basis for 30 years as per the valuation of the Government Chief Appraiser.

Extension of lease for 50 years of land situated at Rajagiriya leased to Institute of Physiotherapists

With effect from 13.05.1999, 30 Perchers of land owned by Urban Development Authority situated in Rajagiriya Welikada area has been granted to the Institute of Physiologists on concessional lease basis for construction of a building for research activities. The Cabinet has approved the idea submitted by the Minister for Urban Development and Housing to provide the land to the Institute of Physiologists on long-term lease basis for 50 years after paying the annual rent determined by the State Valuer.

Introduction of Digital Technology in Brivenak Education System

The Ministry of Technology and the Ministry of Education have jointly planned to undertake programs to strengthen Privenag education by introducing digital technology in the Privenag education system. It will enable teachers and Bhikkhu students at Privena to use digital technology to explore and analyze Sri Lanka’s national Buddhist heritage. The Cabinet has approved the idea submitted by the President and the Education Minister as Minister of Technology to implement the programme.

Extension of project duration and revision of total cost estimate for construction of Gandhara fishing port

Approval has been given in the cabinet meeting held on 07.07.2019 for the construction of a fishing harbor at Gandhara fishing landing. Although this work plan is planned to be completed in December 2023, due to the situation of Kovid 19 infection and economic crisis, it is not possible to complete this work plan as expected. Accordingly, the cabinet has approved the idea submitted by the Minister of Fisheries to extend the works including the construction of the platform for the program from December 2023 to December 2026, and to revise the total cost estimate based on the price ranges.

Renovation of Thiagama Mahinda Rajapaksa Stadium

The development activities of Thiagama Mahinda Rajapaksa International Stadium are currently underway and the construction activities of the sub-projects proposed for implementation were held on 08.01.2024 to hand over to the Army. The Cabinet has approved the idea submitted by the Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs to carry out the said construction works through the Sri Lankan Army.

Responsibilities, activities and renewal of maintenance contract for Thambabhavani Wind Power Station

The full commercial operations of Thambabhavani Wind Power Station owned by Sri Lanka Electricity Board have commenced on 2021.05.18. The Sri Lanka Electricity Board has signed an agreement with Vestas Wind Lanka (Pvt) Limited to provide responsibilities, operations and maintenance services of the power plant for three (03) years and the agreement period has ended on 17.05.2024. The Cabinet has approved the proposal submitted by the Minister of Power and Energy to select suitable service provider following competitive bidding process.

A 200 MW internal combustion engine with dual fuel capacity, Kerawalapitti Natural Gas Plant

The Kerawalapitti Natural Gas Plant project, a 200 MW internal combustion engine with dual fuel capacity, has been sanctioned by the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka and identified as part of the Long Term Power Generation Plan for the period 2023-2042. The Cabinet has approved the idea submitted by the Minister of Power and Energy to find suitable investors for the works through competitive bidding process.

Completion of remaining works of construction projects for Sri Lanka Police

Many construction projects have been started with the aim of providing the necessary infrastructure facilities to the Sri Lankan Police, and due to the Covid 19 infection situation in 2020 and the economic crisis in the country, the following projects that were planned to be completed in the years 2021–2023 have not been able to be completed as expected. The Cabinet approved the proposal submitted by the Minister of Public Security to revise the complete cost estimate and extend the completion period to 2024 – 2027 to complete the remaining works in the said projects.

Amending the National Innovation Agency Act No. 22 of 2019

A national policy on innovation in social, scientific, technological, security, environment and services has been prepared and recommendations submitted by the National Innovation Agency established in 2022. The Cabinet has approved the proposal submitted by the Education Minister to advise the draftsman to amend the said Act.
