According to the Chennai Meteorological Department, very heavy rain is likely in 5 districts of Tamil Nadu today.
In this regard, in a statement issued by the Chennai Meteorological Department, the low pressure area that existed in the South West Bay of Bengal area yesterday moved in the northeast direction and today at 08:30 am, a deep low pressure area prevails in the Midwest and adjoining South Bay of Bengal areas.
It is likely to move further northeastward and strengthen as a low pressure area over Central Bay of Bengal tomorrow (24.05.2024) morning. After that, it will move further north-eastwards and intensify into a cyclonic storm, likely to prevail over East Central Bay of Bengal on 25.05.2024 morning.
After that, it will move in a northerly direction, intensify into a severe storm and move towards Bangladesh and the adjoining West Bengal coast. A low pressure area has formed over the southeast Arabian Sea along the Kerala coast.
23.05.2024: Light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning and gusty winds (30 kmph to 40 kmph) at a few places in Tamil Nadu, Puduwai and Karaikal. Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Tenkasi, Coimbatore district hilly areas and Nilgiri districts received heavy to very heavy rain at one or two places, Erode, Tirupur, Theni, Dindigul, Madurai and Virudhunagar districts received heavy rain at one or two places.
24.05.2024 Light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning and gusty winds (30 kmph to 40 kmph) at a few places in Tamil Nadu, Puduvai and Karaikal.
Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Tenkasi, Theni and Dindigul districts received heavy rain at one or two places.
