In order to reduce the traffic congestion in Chennai city, the major projects being implemented in Chennai were studied.
Construction of four lane elevated road from Thenampet to Saidapet.
A link road connecting Rajiv Gandhi Road and East Coast Road.
“U” shaped flyover work at Tidal Park Junction on Rajiv Gandhi Road.
Perungalathurar railway flyover work.

Also studied the feasibility of the following visionary projects to be implemented in Chennai city.
Construction of a sea bridge from Kalankara Dehradun to Kotivakkam.
Construction of elevated road from Thiruvanmiyur to Uthandi.
Construction of elevated road from Meenambakkam Airport to Tambaram.
Construction of flyovers at five junctions on Badi to Tiruninavur road.
An elevated road connecting Pallavaram to Chennai Outer Ring Road.
Construction of bypass road connecting Patappai – Manimangalam – Varadarajapuram road.
In order to reduce the traffic congestion in the urban areas, the progress of major works in Tamil Nadu cities like Madurai, Trichy, Coimbatore, Hosur, Velurer and Tirunelveli was studied.
Chennai Border Road Project (CPRR)
“Chennai Border Road Project” to reduce the traffic congestion caused by heavy vehicles carrying export and import goods handling at Chennai and Ennuar Ports, to allow vehicles from the southern part of the state and neighboring states to reach Ennuar and Kattupali Ports, and to increase the commercial and industrial prosperity of Chennai Metropolis. A 133 km long (including land acquisition) two-way service road with a six-lane road is to be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs.16,212.40 crore. These works are planned to be implemented in five phases starting from Ennar Port, Thachur, Thiruvallur Bypass, Thirupperumbudur, Singaperumal Temple to Mamallapuram.
The first phase of the Chennai border road works is 25.40 km from Ennuar Port to Thachur. In length and at an estimated cost of Rs.4290 crore (including land acquisition), the second phase of the work is 26.10 km from Thachur to Tiruvallur bypass. 2259 Crores (including land acquisition) for the length is in progress.
A field survey was conducted at Thamaripakkam by Youth Welfare and Sports Development Minister Udayanidhi Stalin regarding the above works. Instructions were given to take necessary steps to complete the above projects with speed and quality and bring them to public use.
Public Works Minister AV Velu, Special Project Implementation Department Government Secretary Taresh Ahmed, Highways and Minor Ports Department Secretary R. Selvaraj, Chennai Border Road Project Director CA Raman, Tiruvallur District Collector Prabhu Shankar were present in the above inspection meeting and field inspection. , Chief Engineers of Tamil Nadu Highway Department and senior government officials attended.
