Chennai – Trichy Greenfield Road

In this case, the Chennai-Trichy Expressway has been included in the second phase of the Bharatmala Paryojana project. It is also a part of the 6,747 km highway project to be implemented across the country. They are planning to make it a greenfield expressway. This means that the expressway will be constructed on a new route without using the existing route.

Detailed project report

It passes through various rural areas. The cost of land acquisition will be greatly reduced. The duration of construction will be less. The Greenfield Expressway will only see new development in rural areas adjacent to it. Preparation of detailed project report of Chennai-Trichy Expressway project has been accelerated.

4 hour drive on 8 lane road

Various information including route, technical facilities, connecting roads, financial requirement, economic corridor plan, duration for the new route will be collected. It is being constructed as an 8 lane road. If this road comes into use, the travel time between Chennai and Trichy will be reduced to just 4 hours. It will be the second greenfield road after the Chennai-Salem highway.

Trichy – Thoothukudi connection

The project is estimated to cost around Rs 35,000 crore. The Chennai-Trichy Expressway with a total distance of 310 kilometers is being constructed to extend to the southern districts. That is, a link road will be established from Trichy to Thanjavur and from there it will extend to Thoothukudi via Pilliyarpatti in Sivagangai district. A 4 lane road will be constructed from Thanjavur to Tuticorin.

New Expressway Road Project

In particular, Thanjavur – Pilliyarpatti road will be connected to Mellur via National Highway 45B. It will be helpful for traveling to Madurai. Already the National Highway 45 between Chennai and Trichy is becoming very critical. Thousands of vehicles are traveling daily. As an alternative to these, the new expressway road is expected to be helpful for quick travel.
