From the Alaghar temple, Kallaghar left to see his sister Meenakshi’s Thirukalyanam and then went down to the Vaigai river.
The world-renowned Madurai Chitrai Festival started on the 12th with the flag hoisting ceremony. Madurai city is celebrating a festival day. Yesterday, the main event, Meenakshi Sundareshwar Thirukalyana Vaibhava was held with great fanfare.
Following this, today in Tirukalyana Kolam, Sundareswarar in a big chariot and Meenakshi Amman in a small chariot came for a procession on the main streets of Madurai. In Madurai, Meenakshi Amman and Sunderaswara graced the devotees in a chariot on Geezhamasi Road, Southamasi Road, Melamasi Road and Northamasi Road.
Following this, Kallagar, now from Alaghar temple, left for Madurai on the Thirukalyanam of his sister Meenakshi. A counter service event took place to welcome him into the city of Madurai.
After the news of the wedding of younger sister Meenakshi, the event of going down to the Kallazagar river was held in a frenzy. In the traditional way, water in leather bags was thrown on the Kalajagar who was descending into the Vaigai river. Only 2400 people were allowed to descend the river. Also, the court had ordered that only water should be used.
Following this, tomorrow (April 23) at 5.50 am, the event of the rising of the Kallaghakar from the Vaigai river, which is the highlight of Chitrai festival, will take place.
