Actress Manisha Koirala says her cancer diagnosis led to many realizations. In an interview, he said that when he was diagnosed with cancer, those who were considered his closest friends left him.
Only her close family stood by her during those difficult times. Manisha said that when she was battling cancer, even her large, affluent family did not come to see her. Manisha said she sought treatment after she was diagnosed with cancer and it helped her realize a lot.
Asked how the experience has changed her relationship with her family and friends, Manisha told NDTV, “It’s been a journey. It was also a learning experience. I really believed I had many friends. Partying together, traveling together, having fun together, I thought they would sit with me in my pain.
It is not like that. They cannot bear anyone’s pain, let alone their own. We always try to find excuses to avoid feeling pain. We want to escape from pain. It is human nature. I was very lonely and felt that only my family was around me,” he said.
Stating that only her immediate family stood by her, Manisha said, “I also have a big Koirala Kandan family. But no one came. I have a big family and everyone is comfortable and they can do it.
But only my parents, my brother and my brother’s wife took care of me. As everyone left me, I realized that these are the people who are with me. No matter what, my family is my priority. They come first in my life, everyone else later,” he said.
Manisha was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2012. He was treated in New York. In an NDTV interview, he said that it is still difficult to work at the same pace as before. “Being affected by cancer, I know how the mind and body are intertwined. Even now sometimes I work under stress.
Honestly, when I was doing Heeramandi, it was consuming me so much, my mood was swinging… and I was like ‘just sail through this phase’. Everyone focus on your health,” said Manisha. Manisha is currently starring in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Netflix series Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar.
