Sithavakka Avisawala Tourism Zone has been declared as an attractive eco-friendly tourism zone. The event was presided over by Minister of Transport, Highways and Mass Media, Bandula Gunawardena. The area has been declared a tourist zone in conjunction with the Wetland Park Conference held in Colombo.
Sittawaka region has been identified as a unique wetland tourism destination in the world.
The International Wetland Union’s Australia, New Zealand and Asia Summit has named Sitawaka, Avisawala tourism zones as eco-friendly tourism sites.
More than a hundred environmental officials from 15 countries, who had arrived in the country for the Wetlands Summit, took a special train trip on the Odyssey train to attractive tourist sites including Sitawaka Botanical Garden and Kalatuwawa Water Treatment Plant. Colombo Golf Course and Kithulkala Hill Environment were also observed during their journey.
After this the Prasem was declared as a sustainable tourist destination. Minister Kalanithi Bandula Gunawardena unveiled the memorial plaque at Sitawaka Botanical Garden and officially announced it.
