Directed to submit report on flood situation within two weeks

Sagala Ratnayake, Senior Adviser to the President on National Security and Head of the Presidential Task Force, instructed the Divisional Secretaries of Colombo District to investigate the causes of floods in Colombo District and request a report involving all the village officers, and prepare a preliminary report based on those reports and submit them to the President’s Office within two weeks.

Accordingly, he said that he would discuss with the heads of the concerned institutions and take immediate steps to prepare necessary plans to resolve these issues.

Sagala Ratnayake said the above during a discussion held at the President’s Office yesterday (26) afternoon with the heads of departmental organizations to find out the causes of the recent flood situation in Colombo district due to bad weather and find solutions to it.

Sagala Ratnayake further said that President Ranil Wickramasinghe and the concerned regional political representatives visited the flood-damaged areas in Colombo district and observed that, like natural causes, irregular human activities have also been identified as the cause of the flood situation.

Accordingly, he further mentioned that President Ranil Wickramasinghe has directed to quickly prepare short-term, mid-term and long-term work plans to prevent such floods from occurring again in the future.

Member of Parliament Premanath C. Tolawatta, Secretary of the Ministry of Water Supply A.C.M. Nabeel, heads of departmental organizations and some local residents who faced the flood situation in Colombo district also participated in the discussion.
