Wayanad Landslide
A terrible landslide occurred in Kerala’s Wayanad last month on July 30. In this, Mundakai, Suralmalai, Attamalai, Punchirimattam, Mempadi, Vellarimalai and other places were severely affected. The landslide incident caused great shock and sadness across the country.
Casualties are high
Caught in the landslide, hundreds of houses and buildings were washed away and buried in the soil. The death toll in this horrific incident has crossed 400. The condition of more than 100 others is still unknown. Rescue operations and relief operations have been going on for 20 days. 1,200 people including army personnel, disaster rescue team, firemen, police and volunteers were involved in the search operation. Body parts of the dead are being recovered. Unable to find out what happened to many people trapped in this landslide is causing concern.
Mundakkai, Suralmalai
In the landslide-hit Mundakkai and Suralmalai areas, as some relaxation of restrictions was implemented, hundreds of people from various districts of Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka started arriving. As people came to visit the affected area, the district administration was unable to control them. Coming to this landslide area causes more disturbance.
Wayanad Collector Notification
In this situation, the Wayanad district administration has ordered a ban on visitors to Mundakkai and Suralmalai areas. Barricades have been set up at the entrance of the bridge leading to the affected areas and police are monitoring.
Public access is prohibited
Only rescue personnel from various forces, officials, journalists and volunteers are allowed to visit the landslide affected areas. And the people of the affected area can inform the authorities and leave. Wayanad District Collector Meghashree has announced that people will be prohibited from going to the areas affected by landslides.
