Delhi: A major bill passed during the last BJP regime will come into force from today (July 1). These new amendments have amended the names and important features of the British era amendments like Indian Penal Code, Criminal Procedure Code, Indian Evidence Act.
Accordingly, the Acts have been renamed as Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita 2023 and Bharatiya Sakshya Adiniyam 2023 and changes have been brought in those Acts.

For certain types of crimes against women, a woman judge must record the victim’s statement. If that is not available, a male judge should record statements in the presence of a female judge to create a victim-friendly environment in the trial.
Both the accused and the victim have the right to get copies of the FIR, police report, charge sheet, statements, statements and other documents within 14 days. Amendments to the new criminal laws have come into effect today, allowing courts to grant a maximum of two adjournments to prevent unnecessary delays in trials and ensure timely justice.
