Madurai:
1.31 crore in cash, 354 grams of gold, 670 grams of silver and 745 foreign currency notes have been received as bank notes in the month of July at the world famous Madurai Meenakshi Amman Temple, the temple administration said.
Located on the banks of the Vaigai River, Madurai is more than 2500 years old and is known as the cultural and vibrant district of Tamil Nadu.
Madurai Meenakshi Amman Temple:
Madurai, the capital of the Pandyan kings, is known as the Athens of the East for its world-renowned Meenakshiyamman temple towers, and Madurai has been mentioned in many literary works by Arabs, Romans and Greek travelers.
Apart from this, Madurai is featured in the Sangam literature Silapathikaram and the city also has the pride of Madurai where Tamil was raised by the Sangam.
A grand temple has been built here for Madurai Meenakshi, who ruled the city of Madurai, which has many glories. This temple is considered to be the pearl of Lord Shiva and one of the Shakti Peethas.
Cash donation:
Chitrai festival conducted in this temple is world famous. Due to this, thousands of devotees and tourists from not only Tamil Nadu but also from other states and abroad visit the Madurai Meenakshi Amman temple every day.
To return this visit, the devotees pay their offerings in the money bank kept in the temple. It is customary for some of them to pray and make offerings.
Coin offering for the month of July:
The money offerings paid by the devotees are counted once a month by the temple administration. In that way, the work of counting the money donation for the month of July started yesterday. The donation counting process started in the presence of temple trustee Hindu Religious Charitable Department officials and supervisors, not only the Madurai Meenakshiyamman temple but also the money offerings in the ten sub-temples associated with the temple were counted.
Madurai Meenakshi Amman Temple and 10 other temples have collected a total of one crore 31 lakh 16 thousand 940 rupees in cash, 354 grams of gold, 670 grams of silver and 245 foreign currency notes, according to the temple administration.
It is worth noting that in the last month of Chitrai, Madurai Meenakshi Amman Temple received a similar donation of Rs 1.2 crore.
