For the audience;
Multiply means to multiply. It is in the month of Adi that the south-west monsoon starts and the Cauvery water overflows. Agriculture will flourish. The festival started to celebrate and thank the people along the banks of Cauvery for enriching their lives in this way is the 18th Peruku.
It is an important festival celebrated all over Tamil Nadu. On this day the farmers look at the degrees and sow the seeds. That’s why there is also the saying of seeking a degree. On this day they bathe in the rivers and perform puja and start the agricultural work. A mythological story is also told for this.
It’s history is inspiring..
A demon named Survathaman pleased Lord Shiva by his severe penance and thereby got the boon of eternal victory. Thus he swayed the people to bring this world under his control. He also imprisoned the gods. Indra and Varuna escaped without being caught by Survathama.
But the demon also caught Varna and said that if you don’t want to be imprisoned, you should not rain in the south. Varna also agreed to that. As a result, the southern part turned into a waterless desert, and Agathiyar, who saw this, offered penance to Brahman.
Brahma asked Shiva. Pursuant to Agathiyar’s request, Lord Shiva gave a portion of the Ganga from his head to the sage. Agathiyar holds the water in his Kamandalam and comes to the south. Ganesha also follows him to see the south.
Sorval Agathiyar leaves Kamandalam in a place and sits in sadness. Thinking that the southern part should be prosperous immediately, Ganesha takes the form of a crow and taps the water in Kamandalam. Seeing this, the sage is shocked and curses the crow. Thus, Ganesha changed into a crow and spread the water, so he gave it the local name Kaveri.
Adiperu Day is not only spiritual but also a day of thanksgiving. On this day women can exchange thali rope and thali string. On this day, women bathe in the river and change thali saradu by offering auspicious things like flower fruit, coconut, turmeric, kaparasi etc.
After such conversion three or five Sumangali women should be given auspicious items as alms. Through this, it is believed that the unmarried women will get married soon after receiving the blessings of the Kaveri Mother and the husbands of the married ones will be healthy.
For Adiper, whatever action is taken on that day, Cauvery will overflow like water. What is touched multiplies. So it is best to worship Bhoomitai and Cauvery during this auspicious season.
