T20I Super 8: Afghanistan team has created history by winning the Super 8 round match held today.
Today’s Super Round and the 48th match of the current year’s T20 World Cup saw Australia and Afghanistan clash at the Arnos Vale Stadium in Kingstown.
Australia won the toss and bowled first. Although the Afghanistan batting team could not add a lot of runs, the openers of the Afghanistan team added only 148 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in 20 overs.
A shock was waiting for the Australian team, which started with the indifference of a simple target. Accordingly, the game started to go briskly as the opener, Head, Warner and Marsh were dismissed for few runs.
At one end, Glenn Maxwell stood alone at one end and struggled alone though he too was dismissed for 59 runs. No other player scored more runs than him.
Due to this, Australia lost 10 wickets in 19.2 overs and scored only 127 runs. Thus, the Afghanistan team registered a historic victory by 21 runs.
Kulbudin Naib of the Afghanistan team, who bowled brilliantly, captured 4 wickets and was amazing. With this victory, the Afghanistan team defeated the strong Australian team for the first time in the international cricket tournament.
In the previous 2023 50-over World Cup series, when the Australian team almost lost to the Afghanistan team, Maxwell would have single-handedly won the match.
It can be said that the Afghan team has now taken the blame for that one victory. Also, with this defeat, there is no doubt that Australia’s semi-final chances have now become a question mark.
