Minister of Transport and Media Bandula Gunawardena said in Parliament that for the first time in history, a service has been created and the existing problems have been resolved regarding the creation of posts in the Sri Lanka Transport Board.
No matter which government comes to power, there will be no more problems regarding posts. The minister also said that appointments and promotions can be given through the service as per the qualifications.
The Minister said this while replying to a question raised by United People’s Shakti MP Kabir Hashim in Parliament.
The Minister further informed in this regard;
The Sri Lankan Transport Board has been operating in the absence of a Yapu. It is strange. However, this is the truth.
After the election, the first attack will be on the Sri Lankan Transport Board itself.
Winners will be in office.
There is no formal plan for anything including promotion. So qualified people will not be appointed to the posts. It is the trade unions that come into play here. By making the Sri Lankan Transport Board’s demands possible without a strike, I had to face the worst possible consequences.
For this purpose I have prepared a service. Select Committee is seen regarding the activities of the Govt. I am a part of it. I brought the issue to the council. The Minister further informed that under the direction of the President, plans are being made to resolve these issues.
