VVPAT Case : The Supreme Court has asked 5 questions to the Election Commission in the case seeking verification of the election acknowledgment slip.
Ever since all Indian elections have been mechanized with EVM machines, various doubts about the authenticity of the votes recorded in them are increasing day by day. The opposition parties are making various accusations that they are hacking it and getting more votes for a symbol and getting extra votes.
These suspicions have now become a hotbed and have emerged as various public interest cases in the Supreme Court. It has been a common demand of PILs filed in the Supreme Court that 100 per cent comparison of the acknowledgment slips recorded in the VVPAT with the votes recorded by the people in the EVM machine has been made.
At present only 5 VVPAT Election Acknowledgment Machines per Assembly Constituency are compared. Apart from this, it is the intention of the petitioners that 100 percent comparison will lead to proper counting of votes.
While the hearings related to this matter had been completed before the Supreme Court bench consisting of Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dibangar Dutta and announced that the judgment would be announced today, the bench of judges has presented five main questions to the Election Commission. They are…
1. Is the VVPAT (Acknowledgment Ticket) machine equipped with a key component called microcontroller to control the election machine? Is it installed in the voting machine?
2. It is possible to input functions (Program) only once in the electronic part called microcontroller.? Or re-enter the conversion functions (Program).?
3. How the Election Commission matches each party symbol in the voting machine. How are votes cast for that symbol recorded and stored?
4. After the election, the recorded votes must be stored for 45 days as per Indian Election Act. But the Election Commission has said that it will store the votes recorded in the electronic machine only for up to 30 days. It should be explained.
5. After the polling, are the vote registration machines and VVPAT devices sealed? Or is it sealed separately?
As 5 important questions have been presented by the Supreme Court bench. The Election Commission officials are going to appear in person today at 2 pm and give an explanation. A bench comprising Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dibangar Dutta is going to decide the important case related to the counting of election votes based on that explanation.
