The mass death of 65 people after drinking poisonous alcohol mixed with methanol in Karunapuram area of Kallakurichi district last month shocked the whole country beyond Tamil Nadu. The CBCID police department has arrested 21 people so far in connection with the incident in which a village was half destroyed. Also, they conducted intensive search and found and destroyed more than 1000 liters of fake liquor.
Also, the Tamil Nadu government has intensified the measures against counterfeit liquor. At the same time, the opposition parties, who are demanding a CBI probe into the smuggling case, have demanded that complete prohibition of alcohol be implemented in Tamil Nadu. In this context, before the Kallakurichi tragedy fades away, the next fake liquor death has created another shock.
It has been reported that an old man named Jayaraman has died after drinking the fake liquor sold in Kumaramangalam area next to Thiruvenneynallur in Villupuram district and two more people are being treated at Mundiambakkam Government Medical College Hospital.
In this regard, the leader of the opposition and AIADMK general secretary Edappadi Palaniswami said in a statement that three people were admitted to the hospital after consuming liquor in Villupuram district, and one person died.
Edappadi Palaniswami, who accused the DMK government of not taking any action to prevent it even after the media released the footage of the sale of bootleg liquor and pointed it out on behalf of the AIADMK IT wing, questioned whether Chief Minister Stalin himself had not learned any lesson after seeing the dead bodies and Kallakurichi Karunapuram.
Also, “How many more lives will be lost before the DMK government wakes up from its slumber?” “I strongly condemn the incompetent DMK government which is responsible for the continuous deaths of smugglers in Villupuram,” he said. Also, he posted the hashtag Resign Stalin on his Twitter, meaning that Chief Minister M.K.Stalin should resign.
