Vijay and Trisha starrer Gilli was a huge hit in Tamil cinema. It was released in the month of April 2004 and was well received by the people. Gilli is one of the iconic films of Kollywood. This film marked a turning point in Vijay’s film career. The characters of Velu, Thanalakshmi and Muthuppandi have become characters celebrated by Tamil fans till date.
The movie was directed by Dharani. Prior to Gilli, he directed films such as Phradu, Puthirum, Dil, and Powder. Both Vikram starrer Dil and Pudhu became huge hits. Following this, he directed Kuruvi and Osthi which did not meet expectations. He did not direct any films for the last 13 years. Now the movie Gilli has been re-released. Fans are celebrating the film.
Despite the film being re-released, the film is a hit again. Collections are also hitting the bar. Especially the movie is successfully running in theaters after about 25 days. Theater owners are happy with this.
