Central and State Governments help
The number that started in the few hundreds has now crossed a new milestone of over 1,000. These electric buses are being taken on lease and are being operated with financial support from the central and state governments. 5,725 buses are operating on 59,709 routes under Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation.
Travel by city buses
Through this they travel 11.73 lakh kilometers per day. It is worth noting that 40 lakh people travel by city buses every day. Electric buses have now become an indispensable part of the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation.
Saving of fuels
These types of buses also help save fuel. That is, it saves 51 thousand liters of diesel per day. This prevents 1.38 lakh kg of carbon-dioxide emissions. In this regard, in a press release issued by the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation, 1,027 electric buses are currently being operated.
The number will increase in the coming days. We will add 320 AC and 148 non-AC electric buses. We are going to get special funds from the state government for this. Under the Bengaluru Smart City scheme, electric buses have also been provided. It is noteworthy that 90 buses are being operated under this.
