Google today (Wednesday) announced the launch of the Google Wallet app in India. Google Wallet app has been introduced for Android users. Tickets, movie tickets, reward cards, digital car keys etc. can be stored in Google Wallet. That means you can store your digital information in it.
Speaking to the media during an event in New Delhi, Ram Babatla, GM & India Engineering Lead, Google Android, said, “We are focused on ensuring a seamless journey from paper to digital.”
However, Google Wallet has been implemented in non-payment mode in India. However, Google Wallet can be used without payment in India. This means Google’s digital wallet and payments platform, Google Pay, will work alongside the Wallet app in India. Babatla said the Google Pay service will continue.
Google Pay is our leading payment gateway and solves all payment needs in India. He said the wallet is specifically designed for non-payment use cases.
Android users can download the Google Wallet app. The app was not launched for the Apple iPhone. Babatla added that the purpose of the wallet app is to solve problems that users face every day, such as accessing boarding passes and having them on their smart phones.
Both boarding passes and movie tickets will automatically show up in Google Wallet when a user purchases a ticket and receives a confirmation email via Gmail, Google says.
