Ramadoss, the founder of BAMA, said that the government should cancel the TNPSC interview system.
In a statement issued by him in this regard, discrimination has been shown in giving marks in the interview for the posts of agricultural officer and horticulture officer in the agriculture department of the Tamil Nadu government. It is reprehensible that the Tamil Nadu government is refusing to cancel the interview, which is being used as a tool for malpractice in recruitment for government jobs. The Tamil Nadu Government Staff Selection Commission has issued a notification on 12.01.2023 to select eligible candidates for a total of 159 posts in the Department of Agriculture, namely 52 Agricultural Officers, 87 Horticultural Officers, and 20 Assistant Directors of Agriculture.
Written tests were conducted on May 20 and 21 last year for those who applied for the posts and the results were announced in November. After that 6 months later on last 20th, 21st and 22nd the interview was conducted and the results were published. It is the marks awarded to the candidates in the interview that has caused controversy. 450 marks were fixed for the written test and 60 marks for the interview in the competitive examinations for posts including agriculture officers and horticulture officers.
While marks are awarded for correct answers in the written test, there have been allegations that marks were awarded depending on the candidates in the interview and that instead of neutrality in the awarding of marks, discrimination was shown.
For example, a total of 172 people participated in the interview for the post of Horticulture Officer. 45 of them got maximum 45 marks and 3 got minimum 27 marks. Can’t fault it. But a person who scored minimum 241 marks in the written test has been awarded 45 marks. All three who scored less than 300& got 45 marks in interview. At the same time, he scored high in the written test
Many people are given very low marks in the interview. The marks of the top 3 candidates in Horticulture Officers written exam are 367.50, 361.50, 358.50 respectively. All these three have been awarded only 36 marks each in the interview. How can a very high scorer in written test score low in interview? While shocking, the fact that the three belong to the most backward classes has raised suspicions. Does the society they belong to determine the scores rather than the answers given by the candidates in the interview? That is the doubt. It is the duty of Tamil Nadu Government and TNPSC to remove that doubt.
Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission may give the usual explanation that the marks are awarded based on the answers given by each individual in the interview. Even if one of the top three in the written test does not answer correctly in the interview, it may be accepted. But, none of the three answered correctly; Can’t believe all three belong to the same reservation category. Besides, the fact that two of these three were interviewed at table number eight confirms the suspicion that the interview may have been discriminated against due to various factors.
Allegations of discrimination in the interviews conducted by the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission have been made for many years. To avoid this allegation, the interview should be canceled for all posts; For many years I have been insisting that meritorious candidates should be selected only on the basis of written test score. Even in Andhra state the interview for all jobs including block 1 has been cancelled. Even in Tamil Nadu, the interviews for the second batch jobs were canceled on 24th of last month.
That being the case, what would be the problem in canceling interviews for other jobs as well? It is not known.
Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission Recruitment should be beyond doubt. Interview should be canceled for all jobs to establish such credibility. Was there any malpractice in the interview for Agriculture Officer, Horticulture Officer posts? The Tamil Nadu government should issue an order to conduct an investigation. I also request that the examination board should release the video recordings made during these interviews for public viewing. mentioned.
