Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital, Trichy has opened a Heat Wave Special Treatment Unit to provide special treatment to patients suffering from the effects of summer heat.
Government Hospital Chief Minister Nehru told reporters; Not only in Trichy district, more and more heat waves are ravaging the public throughout Tamil Nadu. This causes many problems in the body. Excessive sweating causes problems like dizziness, fainting, vomiting, heart damage etc.
Already, people with high blood pressure, diabetes, the elderly, women, pregnant women, and especially children are affected.
Also, the construction workers are also very affected during this hot season. They have to wrap their heads or wear hats to protect themselves.
Cotton clothes can be worn on the body. Black colored clothes attract more heat waves and therefore generate more heat in our body. So it is better to wear white clothes. A full-length shirt should be worn. A hat should be worn on the head. It is advisable to carry an umbrella and a two liter water bottle when going outside.
This not only quenches the thirst, but also reduces the salinity and other defects that may occur from the body. When sweating profusely, the amount of blood flow in the body decreases. This can cause fainting.
To avoid this, just follow the above mentioned points. If you work continuously in the same place from 11 am to 5 pm, the effect of heat will definitely be more. Instead, taking breaks in the shade every two hours will reduce the effects of the heat.
Currently, as a precautionary measure, a 12-bed heat wave special treatment unit has been set up at the Trichy Government Hospital. 12 beds including 4 for adults, 4 for children and 4 for pregnant women are ready with medical facilities.
Every bed is set up to administer all medications immediately for immediate intensive care. Also, necessary medicines, refrigerator, ice packs are ready,” said Dr. Nehru.
