The Meteorological Department has warned that Tamil Nadu will receive rain for the next one week. Especially in the Nilgiris district, the southwest monsoon is intensifying. An alert has been given for heavy to very heavy rain at one or two places in the hilly areas of Nilgiris and Coimbatore districts today. Due to this, the Nilgiri district administration is taking necessary precautions to face the rain. In this context, in a press release issued by the Nilgiri district collector Lakshmi Bhavya, the India Meteorological Department has warned that there will be very heavy rain for three days from today to August 2. He mentioned that there is a possibility of flash floods and landslides due to heavy rainfall in some parts of the district.
He explained that there is a possibility of trees, tree branches and electric poles falling on the roads due to the high speed of the wind, and taking this into consideration, various safety and precautionary measures are being taken on behalf of the district administration.
Further, “Tourists coming to Nilgiri district from other districts should come safely considering the safety of tourists to avoid loss of life and property.
The Nilgiri Collector has urged the tourists that since the road repair work is going on at Akasa Palam on the national highway from Ooty to Kudalur, heavy goods vehicles coming from Mettupalayam to Uthagai and Kudalur (except those carrying essential goods) should be avoided for a week from today.
Nilgiri residents say it is better to avoid visiting Ooty in view of the heavy rains.
