Jharkhand Governor C.P. Radhakrishnan on Thursday invited Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) executive president Hemant Soran to form the government in the state.
JMM Party General Secretary and Spokesperson Suprio Bhattacharya has said that the Chief Minister and his cabinet will be sworn in today.
Sambhai Soran met the governor on Wednesday to submit his resignation after 45 MLAs of the ruling coalition elected Hemant as its leader. Hemant was released from jail on June 28, 5 months after his arrest, after the Jharkhand High Court granted him bail. The court noted that there were reasons to believe that he was not guilty of the money laundering case against him in connection with the land in Ranchi.
As reported by The Indian Express earlier, Sambhai Soran was reluctant to give up the post of Chief Minister, saying that it would not be good for the state of Jharkhand with elections just a few months away. He also asserted that he is a popular people’s leader and Hemand Soran is out on bail and there could be attempts to destabilize Hemand’s government again.
