Hirunika was sentenced to 3 years of rigorous imprisonment

19The Colombo High Court has sentenced former MP Hirunika Premachandra to 3 years of rigorous imprisonment in the kidnapping case.

Colombo High Court Judge Amal Ranaraja announced the verdict.

This judgment has been given at the end of the investigation of the case of kidnapping of a youth named Amila Priyantha Amarasinghe who worked in a shop in Thematagoda area on December 21, 2015 in a Defender vehicle owned by Hirunika Premachandra.

Hirunika was accused of aiding and abetting the crime while 8 of his bodyguards had pleaded guilty to 29 offences.

Also, the Attorney General had filed charges in the Colombo High Court regarding this incident.

It is also noteworthy that 8 supporters of Hirunika Premachandra, who were accused in connection with the incident, have confessed their guilt in the court.

In the statement given by the daughter of the fifth suspect, who was arrested on suspicion of kidnapping, the girl told the police that she showed a person who was in contact with her mother and that her father and his companions took him to Hirunika in a jeep.
