How are the security arrangements in Tamil Nadu hospitals? Chief Secretary Muruganandam advice!

In this case, N. Muruganantham IAS, who has assumed responsibility as the new Chief Secretary in Tamil Nadu, was involved in an important consultation on the very first day. That is, he conducted a review with senior officials of the Home and Health Departments on security arrangements in medical college hospitals and other hospitals. He gave some instructions in this meeting.

CCTV camera facility

  • A security audit will be conducted in all medical colleges and government hospitals jointly by police and health officials. Through this audit, the current state of security arrangements should be assessed and measures to be proposed for improvement. Deputy Commissioners in Chennai and other Police Commissionerate offices and in districts, Superintendents of Police will head this Audit Committee. Principals of medical colleges and chief medical officers of government hospitals will also participate in it.
  • All CCTVs already installed in clinics should be operational. Their visual records should be monitored through a central control room. Sufficient number of CCTVs with storage capacity of at least one month should be installed and continuously monitored in all important areas of the hospital.

Outpost Guards

  • Hospital management should ensure proper lighting in wards, corridors, work rooms and all important areas.
  • Attendance of contract security personnel in all hospitals should be monitored through biometric system. Also, they should undergo periodic training on safety regulations.
  • Outposts in medical college hospitals should have adequate number of guards. Guards should regularly patrol the hospital premises.
  • All doctors and health workers can send an instant message to the control room through the police help app when they need emergency help.
