Kerala : Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi were conducting a survey in Suralmalai, which was hit hard by the reverberations of heavy rains. On July 30, a landslide occurred in Wayanad early in the morning, killing more than 280 people and injuring 200.
Following this, Rahul Gandhi rushed to Wayanad yesterday to visit the affected people. But their trip was suddenly canceled due to incessant rain and bad weather there.
Following that, today both of them went to Wayanad to see the people undergoing treatment in the hospital and consoled them. After that Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the opposition, met and talked to the media.
He said, “This is a terrible tragedy for Wayanad, Kerala and our nation. We have come to see the situation here. It is heartbreaking how many people have lost their families and homes.
We will try our best to help and make sure that those who are undergoing treatment get what they need. There is a lot for people to do here. I take this moment to thank everyone including doctors, nurses, administration and volunteers.
To me this is definitely a national disaster. Let’s see what the government has to say. I don’t think this is the right time to talk about political issues. People here need help.
Now is the time to ensure that all the aid reaches the people. I am not interested in politics now. Interested in helping the people of Wayanad. I feel the same today as I did when my father died.
The affected people here have not only lost their fathers but also their entire families. To these people we all owe respect and affection,” says Rahul Gandhi.
