Shobha Karandalaje, a BJP member of Karnataka state and a Union Minister, contested as a BJP candidate in the Bangalore North constituency in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections. Speaking to the media at that time, he mentioned the Bangalore Rameswaram Cafe blast incident and said that they had received training in Tamil Nadu and planted the bomb here.
Union Minister Shoba Karandalaje’s speech, which depicted Tamils as terrorists, drew strong opposition and condemnation in Tamil Nadu. Following this, Shobha Karandalaje regretted her speech on Twitter.
Meanwhile, Thiagarajan from Katachanendal, Madurai filed a complaint at the Madurai Cyber Crime Police Station saying that Shoba Karandalaje had spoken to create conflict between Tamils and Kannadas and action should be taken against her. On this complaint, the police registered a case against Shoba under four sections.
In this situation, Shoba Karandalaje has filed a petition in the Madurai branch of the High Court to quash the case against her. In it, “I have expressed my regret for talking about the Tamils in the Rameswaram Cafe blast incident. A case has also been registered against me at Bangalore Chikpet police station in this regard. Karnataka High Court has stayed the case. A case has been registered against me in Madurai for the same speech,” he said.
He said that the case has been registered against him with political motives, “The person arrested in the Rameswaram Cafe blast incident was staying in Chennai. “The NIA also conducted a search in Chennai in connection with this case,” he said. Also, I am not defaming Tamils. So the case against me should be quashed. Shobha Karandalaje has also demanded that the investigation of the case should be banned and ordered. It has been reported that a hearing will be held soon on this petition.
