The 9th T20 World Cup series between USA and West Indies came to an end on Sunday. Rohit Sharma-led India beat South Africa by 7 runs to win the trophy for the second time in a thrilling final at Bridgetown, West Indies. Following this win, the fans showered congratulations on the Indian team. Also, they are eagerly waiting for their return home.
In this case, a storm warning has been issued in Barbados and the Caribbean islands where the final match was played against the South African team in the T20 World Cup series. Due to this, the Indian cricket team has been delayed in returning home. For the past 3 days, all the players of the Indian cricket team have been staying in the hotel where they are staying.
In this situation, the Vice President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Rajiv Shukla has given a new update on the return of the Indian cricket team to their home country. Accordingly, he said that the Indian team players are going to travel from Barbados to Delhi on Wednesday evening.
“Thank God the Indian team is flying from Barbados to Delhi this evening. Will arrive tomorrow evening. They were stuck there for three days due to storm Beryl.
BCCI has made all arrangements for the safe return of the Indian players. BCCI Secretary Jay Shah himself is monitoring the entire situation,” BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla posted on his X website.
An Air India special flight named AIC24WC – Air India Champions 24 World Cup will bring back the Indian team, its support staff, players’ families including some board officials and Indian journalists.
However, reports suggest that the flight’s return to India is further delayed and a contingent of Indian soldiers will land in the capital Delhi on Thursday morning.
The flight took off from New Jersey, USA on July 2 and is expected to land in Barbados around 2 am local time. According to the schedule, the flight is expected to depart from Barbados at 4:30 am (local time).
It takes 16 hours travel time to reach Delhi. If there is no further delay in their departure, the contingent of Indian soldiers will land at 6 am IST tomorrow, Thursday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is going to felicitate the players of the Indian team. But the schedule for that event is yet to be finalised.
Meanwhile, Grantley Adams International Airport in Barbados resumed operations on Tuesday. It is noteworthy that Hurricane Beryl has now become a Category 4 storm, moving down from Category 5 and moving towards Jamaica.
