PM Modi: Prime Minister Modi has said that Rajiv Gandhi abolished inheritance tax to protect Indira Gandhi’s assets.
Former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi abolished inheritance tax after his mother Indira Gandhi’s death in 1984 to save her wealth from going to the state. Now Congress wants to bring back the tax, PM Modi has alleged.
With the third phase of polling for the Lok Sabha elections scheduled to take place on May 7, Prime Minister Modi, while addressing a gathering in Madhya Pradesh’s Morena, said, “Take a close look at the sins committed by the Congress. I am going to tell you an interesting fact.
“When Indira Gandhi died, there was a law that said half of her property would go to the government. “Rajiv Gandhi abolished inheritance tax so that the government would not lose money,” the Prime Minister alleged.
He said that if Congress wins, it will take more than half of people’s earned property through inheritance tax and vows to protect people’s wealth from Congress’ schemes to loot people’s property.
Congress wants to bring back the inheritance tax now after four generations have enjoyed their wealth. But he assured that BJP will not allow such acts.
