An autopsy was conducted on June 18 at Kalakurichi Madhavachery village where the body of the deceased was exhumed. It is said that Ilayaraja and Jayamurugan died after drinking liquor.
In this situation, his relatives have cremated Ilayaraja’s body. Jayamurugan’s body was buried. After that, the authorities exhumed Jayamurugan’s body and conducted an autopsy. His body was exhumed in the presence of relatives and officials. Subsequently, a team of Mundiambakkam doctors conducted the post-mortem in the presence of Chinnachelam District Collector.
On June 19 and June 20, at least 58 people died after allegedly consuming liquor in Karunapuram, Kallakurichi district. The victims included women and a disabled person. Another 82 people are undergoing treatment.
Following the tragedy, the Tamil Nadu government transferred District Collector Sravan Kumar Jadhav. Also, Superintendent of Police Samai Singh Meena has been suspended. Also, a one-man commission headed by former High Court judge B. Gokuldas has been set up to conduct a complete investigation into this tragic incident.
