Delhi: Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said in a press conference that the Tamil Nadu government had requested to stop the Rameswaram-Dhanushkodi railway project.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Union Budget 2024 in Parliament yesterday. Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav told a press conference in Delhi about the financial details allocated to the railways in the budget and the funds and programs allocated to the states.
Out of which, 33,467 crore rupees have been allocated for railways in the central budget. 2,587 km of railway lines are being laid across India. Railways have been allocated 7 times the amount of funds allocated by the Congress government during the last year. He mentioned that 687 new railway bridges and toll roads have been constructed in the last 10 years under BJP rule.
Later on the railway budget and projects for Tamil Nadu, the Union Minister said that 2,749 hectares of land is required to implement new railway projects in Tamil Nadu. So far only 807 hectares of land has been acquired by the state government. The state government should cooperate in the implementation of railway projects in Tamil Nadu.
The problem here is not about the funds allocated by the central government. Regarding land acquisition. The Tamil Nadu government has officially requested the central government to stop the Rameshwaram-Dhanushkodi railway project. Various railway projects in Tamil Nadu are on hold due to non-acquisition of land by the state government.
Prime Minister Modi’s aim is that all states should progress. The railway budget for Tamil Nadu has been increased to an unprecedented level. 6,080 crore was allocated in last year’s budget. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said in a press conference that 6,362 crore rupees have been allocated in this year’s budget.
