Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei led prayers yesterday for the president, foreign minister and others who were killed in a helicopter crash.
The coffins containing the bodies of the dead draped in the Iranian flag were kept at Tehran University and the top leader led Janaza prayers in front of a large crowd.
President Ibrahim Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdullahian, along with six others, crashed last Sunday near the border with Azerbaijan when a heli was carrying no survivors.
“Lord, we see nothing but goodness in you,” the high-ranking leader said during the prayer.
The arks were subsequently carried by people and chants of ‘America Abolish’ were raised outside. Many foreign leaders also participated in this final ceremony.
The funeral of the Iranian president began last Tuesday, and his body will be taken to the southern Khorasan province and later to his hometown of Mashhad. His body will be cremated today (23rd) evening after the funeral rites.
