At least 41 people, including several Indians, died in a fire that broke out in the early hours of Wednesday (Jun 12, 2024) in a building housing workers in Mangaf, southern Kuwait. Also, more than 50 people were injured. About 160 people are said to have lived in the building.
The fire broke out at 6:00 a.m. local time (0300 GMT), officials said. Regarding this, Major General Eid Rasheed Hamad said, “There was a fire in the kitchen of a six-storey building in Mangaf area in the southern Ahmadi governorate of Kuwait. 43 people were hospitalized due to the fire. 4 of them have died,” he said.
Prime Minister Modi has condoled the incident. About this on the Twitter X site, “The fire incident in Kuwait City is sad. My thoughts are with all those who have lost near and dear ones. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured. The Embassy of India in Kuwait is closely monitoring the situation and working with the authorities there to help the affected people,” he said.

In a post on Twitter X, External Affairs Ministry official spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, ‘On the direction of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh is urgently traveling to Kuwait to help those injured in the fire and coordinate with local authorities. He said that steps will be taken to bring the bodies of those who died in this unfortunate incident to India.
