Lalith Pathanayake to replace Police Administrative Division Chief

Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police Lalith Pathanayake has been appointed to take over the duties of Chief of Police Administration Division.

It is reported that this decision has been taken by the Police Commission which met today (01).

Accordingly, it has been announced that he has been appointed to the said post to fulfill the duty of the Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the Police Administrative Division.

The National Police Commission has announced that despite the fact that Nilanda Jayawardena, who was in the said position, has been given compulsory leave, the Police Commission had notified the Inspector General of Police on July 18th to name someone for the post, but no action was taken in this regard until July 29th. A media release said.

The commission mentioned that Lalith Pathanayake is currently serving as the Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police of the Central Provinces and in addition to the said post, he will be appointed to this post with effect from today (01).

The commission pointed out that the appointment was made on the basis of seniority in the list of Senior Deputy Superintendents of Police in the Police Department.

It is worth noting that he has been appointed to the said position while it is expected that he will be appointed as the next Inspector General of Police or Deputy Inspector General of Police.
