Chennai : After Hyderabad’s defeat to Kolkata in the Qualifier-1 yesterday, Hyderabad captain Pat Cummins spoke about the defeat.
The IPL series has now reached its final stage. The first qualifier of the series was played last night in Ahmedabad. Hyderabad won the toss first and elected to bat in this qualifier. Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head, the openers of the Hyderabad team, who came on the field to play aggressively, were dismissed with few runs.
It was followed by a calm performance by Rahul Tripathi, who helped Hyderabad recover from the slump as he scored 55 off 35 balls. After him, Clausen and Cummins showed some action and eventually Hyderabad team scored 159 runs losing all wickets in 19.3 overs. After that, the Kolkata team played aggressively from the start to achieve an easy goal.
Losing only openers, the Kolkata team won by 164 runs in 13.4 overs with the loss of just 2 wickets thanks to the performances of Shreyas Iyer and Venkatesh Iyer. After the match, Hyderabad captain Pat Cummins spoke about the defeat.
He said, “We have to put this defeat behind us and move forward. In T20 cricket, you have some tough days. We have one more chance to enter the finals. Some players didn’t get off to a good start and we didn’t bowl well. As the wickets kept falling, we thought we needed more batting.
Also, Kolkata bowled well and the wicket was good for batting. We know we still have a lot of work to do this season and I hope we can make up for it in Chennai,” said Pat Cummins after the match.
