Meanwhile, the President mentioned that the government has taken steps to increase the allowance of pre-school teachers by 2500 rupees and the increased allowance will be given from this week.
President Ranil Wickramasinghe mentioned this in a meeting held yesterday (23) with the students who have passed out of G.E.D. ordinary level and higher level and unemployed youth and young women in Chengaladi area of Batticaloa.
The meeting was attended by a large number of young men and women from the area and the President gave positive answers to their questions.
The questions raised by the youth and the answers given by the President are as follows:
Question: There are more than 1800 pre-schools in Eastern Province alone. But the stipend given to the teachers who teach there is not enough. Have an idea to increase their allowance?
Answer: We have decided to increase the allowance of pre-school teachers by Rs.2500. We are going to implement it from this week.
Question: Many people live in this area without basic facilities including permanent housing. Is there a plan to implement a program to provide housing and toilet facilities for them?
Answer: The final quarter of the year is election season. Therefore, although we cannot start those works this year, we are planning to implement many new housing projects in the next few years.
Also, the tourism industry in the region is likely to grow on a large scale. Plans have been prepared and the Agricultural Modernization Program has been implemented. Through this, there will be great development in this province in the next few years. Also, we are working with India for the development of Trincomalee city including Trincomalee port. Through such activities, the youth of Eastern Province will get more career opportunities in the future.

A plan has been prepared to set up a massive garment industrial estate in Kondakuda, Edravur, Batticaloa district. Through this, many job opportunities will be created for the unemployed youth in this province. Apart from this, various investments will be made and factories will also be started. It must be recalled that these schemes were introduced by President Ranil Wickremesinghe, who was the Prime Minister during the good governance government.
