The new High Commissioner of Pakistan to Sri Lanka, retired Major General Faheem Ul Aziz, called on the Speaker Hon. Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena in the Parliament today (24). The Secretary General of Parliament Mrs. Kushani Rohanadeera and the Deputy High Commissioner of Pakistan Wajid Hassan Hashmi were also present in this meeting.
During the cordial discussion, attention was paid to matters of mutual importance and further strengthening of the enduring friendship between the two countries.
The High Commissioner, who served in Pakistan’s security sector for a long time, recalled that during his service, he got to know many Sri Lankan military officers during the training sessions held between the two countries. Meanwhile, he also mentioned that he expects to develop the religious tourism sector between Sri Lanka and Pakistan.
During the meeting, the Speaker expressed his gratitude for Pakistan’s support to Sri Lanka in terms of military as well as development activities. In particular, the speaker recalled Pakistan’s support to Sri Lanka during the war against terrorism.
Additionally, they discussed the activities of the Parliamentary Friendship Associations between the two countries and the future measures that can be taken to enhance bilateral relations.
