ICC: From last June 2 to June 29, 20 teams participated in the 20 World Cup series held in America and West Indies and the matches were held briskly. The Indian team under the leadership of Rohit Sharma defeated South Africa in the final and won the World Cup again after 17 years.
The ICC has now released a list of achievements in the ongoing World Cup series. Accordingly, we will now see what it is in order.
- This is the first time that the two finalists of the 20-over World Cup series have gone unbeaten in the league round and the Super 8 round and qualified for the final.
- The highest score by a team in the final was set by India against South Africa (171/6). The previous highest score was 174/2 set by Australia against England in the 2021 World Cup final, but that was beaten here.
- Rohit Sharma became the oldest player (37 years) to captain a team in T20 World Cup.
- India’s Arshadeep Singh and Afghanistan’s Fazalhaq Farooqui are the highest wicket takers in the T20 World Cup. Both have taken 17 wickets, one more than Hazaranga who took 16 wickets for Sri Lanka last year.
- Bumrah recorded a record bowling average of 8.3 in the 20-over World Cup series. This is lower than last year’s South African team Norkia (8.5 average). Also, he finished the series with an excellent economy of 4.17. It is noteworthy that he also won the hero of the series award.
- Chris Jordan of England team is amazing by taking 4 wickets in one over. That includes a hat-trick. The same feat was achieved last year by Curtis Camper of the Netherlands team, but it is noteworthy that he took it in consecutive overs even though it was 4 balls in a row.
- New Zealand’s Lockie Ferguson bowled 4 overs in a match against Papua New Guinea and took 3 wickets without conceding a single run and made a new record in the history of cricket apart from the World Cup series.
- Nicholas Pooran holds the record for most sixes in a single World Cup. He has already surpassed fellow former player Chris Gayle’s record of 17 sixes in this series alone.
