Many Indians migrate and live in many foreign countries for study and work. It is no exaggeration to say that Indians have a special fascination with Canada in particular. Indians are migrating to Canada for various reasons like study and work.
Noticing the significant increase in the number of foreign visitors to Canada, the country’s government ordered some new changes in the visa process to reduce the number of foreign visitors. It was announced that Canada took such a decision because the opportunities of its citizens living in Canada are being denied by foreigners.
In this case, hundreds of Indian students gathered in Canada’s Prince Edward Island and protested that they are facing serious problems due to this new law. But the Indian Ministry of External Affairs has said that the Canadian side has not given any information or notification about this protest and the problem of Indian students in Canada.
Indian students’ protest in Canada has entered its 2nd week. They have also stated that they are in a “Now or Never Situation”. Regarding this, the protestors’ official X site has mentioned, “Second week of protest.. But we are determined.. No freebies.. We need justice” and the Indian students involved in this protest have met the country’s cabinet on May 23 and appealed.
Canada has implemented new visa regulations to reduce the number of foreigners arriving. The protest was said to be aimed at ensuring that the provision was enforced on new Canadians and not on existing Indians and foreigners.
Indians who are already staying in Canada will be denied work visas and the freedom to stay there based on the new visa regulations, the protesting Indians have said. Indian students involved in this protest have also said that their work permits should be given and these recent visa changes should be reviewed.
Speaking about this protest, Rupinder Pal Singh, who is the leader of this protest movement, said that he is conducting this protest by focusing on three main aspects. It is noteworthy that he moved from India to Canada in 2023.
Three demands of Indian students to the King of Canada:
“Provincial Nominee Program i.e. Indians who are already in Canada should be exempted from Canada’s new visa regime. And these new laws should not affect us as we are working with proper work permits.. These new visa rules should not have any impact on those who were already living in Canada before the new visa regime.
This new visa rule exempts sales and service industries, food and sugar industries. But there is no exemption for those coming from abroad for the same jobs. They should also be exempted from the new visa regime. Also, it is not possible that the PNP score of 25 should be 65.
Work permits should be extended.. Work permits have been wasted due to government changes and economic problems. Many have lost their jobs due to this. To compensate for that, it would be reasonable to extend the work permit of Indian students,” Indian students involved in the protest have presented this three-point demand to the Canadian government.
