Cabinet Speaker and Minister Bandula Gunawardena said that President Ranil Wickremesinghe has officially announced in the cabinet that the presidential election will be held this year in accordance with the current constitution in the country.
Minister Bandula Gunawardena said that the President has informed the Cabinet that the presidential election will be held on the date decided by the Election Commissioner.
The minister said this while announcing the cabinet decisions at the press conference held yesterday at the Information Department.
He also pointed out that no announcement has been made in the Cabinet that Parliament will be dissolved in any way.
He said that there is no expectation to extend the tenure of the President and it is a day dream of some parties.
However, while various campaigns are being made regarding the holding of parliamentary elections, the president has not made any announcement in the cabinet regarding the holding of such general elections, he said.
