72 first information reports were received from 13 police stations in the metropolitan area through the Commissioner of Police’s office on the instructions of Police Commissioner Kamini on the orders of Tiruchirappalli District Collector Pradeep Kumar.
Based on this, the District Nominating Officer Dr. Ramesh Babu and on the direction of the Food Safety Department, all the shops selling banned tobacco products in the metropolitan area were raided by 9 teams consisting of Food Safety Officers, Armed Forces Constables, Law and Order Police Department and found that 38 shops were selling banned tobacco products worth Rs. .12 lakh fine and sealed the shops.
Also, Ramesh Babu, District Designated Officer of Food Safety Department said; He said that such shops will be sealed all over the district in the coming days and if they indulge in criminal activities by selling tobacco products banned by the Tamil Nadu government, action will be taken as per the Food Safety Standards Act 2006 and those shops will be sealed.
He also said that if the public finds food related adulterations and food products banned by the Tamil Nadu government are being sold in the shops where they buy food, they can report to the numbers given below.
