The main event of the Paris Olympics, the athletics competitions, will be held until August 11. A total of 1,810 sportsmen and women will participate in 48 competitions.
Middle distance runner Darushi Karunaratne will participate in the first interview for Sri Lanka in the athletics competition. Darushi Karunaratne, a gold medalist at the Asian Games in Hangzhou, will compete in the preliminary round of the women’s 800m event tomorrow (2).
Aruna Darshana, who has won medals internationally, will compete in the Olympic Games for the first time on the 4th of August. He competes in the preliminary round of the men’s 400m.
Dilhani Legamke, who won the silver medal in the Hangzhou Asian Games, will participate in the women’s javelin event on August 7.
Darushi, Aruna and Dilhani are currently practicing and preparing for their preliminary rounds in Paris. They are busy preparing with the aim of advancing to the second round of their respective competition.
Our goal is to achieve personal competitive advantage. That is a possible target that we can set,’ Aruna Darshana’s coach Asanga Rajakaruna said from Paris.
Aruna Darshayana’s best time of 45.45 in the 400m race was 46th out of 48 athletes who qualified for the Olympics.
Dharushi’s best time in the women’s 800m was 2:00.66 while Legamke’s best was 61.57m in the women’s javelin.
This time six people have participated in the Olympic Games along with three physiotherapists. However, Viren Nethasinghe, who participated in the men’s singles badminton event, and Kyle Abeysinghe and Ganga Senaviratne, who participated in the swimming event, were eliminated from the Olympic Games in the preliminary round.
