People from the area, social activists, religious leaders and students participated in the protest.
During this, the public gathered on the Trincomalee – Batticaloa main road to protest against the liquor shop, carrying slogans such as “Don’t spoil the drink by giving alcohol”, “Don’t hit the stomach of the poor”, “Don’t dissolve the labor of farmers in alcohol” and raised slogans.
Then from there they went to the Muthur divisional secretariat, protested in front of the secretariat and a group of five members including the representatives of the clerics and civil society and the journalist handed over the magazine to the divisional secretary and engaged in long negotiations.
Following this, it is reported that the said liquor outlet has been temporarily suspended by the Excise Department and the Prime Minister will visit the said place and take further action.
It is noteworthy that the Liquor outlet was opened last Thursday (13) in spite of the protests of the people in Kardiyapuram area.
