People’s representatives are primarily responsible for building the economy

27 NaThe next presidential election will be held later this year. Every political party is making moves targeting this election.

In this situation, the leaders of the parties who are expected to contest the presidential elections are making various promises to the people on political platforms. Many are talking about the economic crisis.

But when the country is in economic recession with foreign exchange deficit in 2022, none of them have proposed policies for the country’s development. On that occasion, unless they took decisions by prioritizing their own party interests, they retreated to take decisions considering the interests of the country.

Considering the severity of the economic decline faced by the country, they were reluctant to take the leadership of the country to rebuild the country economically or to provide relief to the people through it.

Highlighting the interests of the country in that difficult environment, President Ranil Wickremesinghe assumed the leadership of the country and started economic programs to rebuild the country. Through it, the economy of the country has gradually recovered within a short period of time and has entered the path of revival and is traveling forward in a promising way.

However, it needs to be firmly maintained to prevent the economy from falling again like it did in early 2022. Along with that, the economy of the country should be built in a stable manner. They are the expectations of the people. Fulfilling it is the need of the day.

The main reason for the country’s economic collapse in 2022 was the lack of a proper economic system. So far, the country has seen an import-centric economic system. All the goods needed by the country were imported.

But after the war, the country got an opportunity to achieve rapid economic growth. However, 15 years after the end of the war, that progress has not been achieved. Loans were taken for imports when they did not have the necessary funds. The debt thus taken increased greatly and became unrepayable. No one came forward to tell people this truth.

Eventually the country went bankrupt. But such a situation cannot be allowed to happen again in the country. It is in this way that the government led by President Ranil Wickremesinghe is taking forward efforts to firmly build the economy with the support and cooperation of the International Monetary Fund.

In that regard, the President addressed the discussion with the youth and young women participating in the Parliamentary Sectoral Oversight Committee for Economic Restructuring held yesterday at Water’s Edge Hotel, Bhattaramulla, and said, ‘Currently, we have discussed with the International Monetary Fund and presented an economic program. The Economic Transformation Act has been brought to implement it. If that plan falls through we will lose foreign exchange again. There will be a situation where you will have to stand in queue again without medicine, petrol or fuel. Therefore, I request all party leaders to support this economic transformation bill.

People’s representatives who really want to avoid and prevent economic recession in the country will support and cooperate with this plan of the government. That will be the job of responsible people’s representatives. They will never contribute to the downfall of the country’s economy for personal and petty political interests. People’s opinion is the same.
