Permission to climb the Velliangiri hill in Coimbatore has been completed today: The forest department has announced that so far more than 2.5 lakh devotees have visited Swami.

Velliangiri Hill is located in the Western Ghats near Coimbatore. Swayambulingam Temple is located on the 7th hill here. Devotees used to trek to visit the Swayambulingam. The forest department gives permission to climb the hill from February to May every year.

This year, pilgrims were allowed to climb the hill from 12th of February last. Every day a large number of devotees came to climb the hill. Thousands of devotees gathered and had darshan on Shivratri Chitra Poornami days. The permission given by the forest department to climb Velliangiri hill is effective today  It ends on 31st. After that, pilgrims are not allowed to trek.

An officer of the Coimbatore Forest Department said in this regard, Devotees have been given permission to trek to the Velliangiri temple on the top of the hill since February 15. So far, more than 2.5 lakh people have gone there directly and had darshan of Swami.

Meanwhile, due to the heavy rains in the Western Ghats, the 5th, 6th, and 7th peaks of the mountain are experiencing extreme cold. Also, the mountain paths leading to the temple are damaged. Therefore, considering the safety of the devotees, today  Devotees are prohibited from going on the Velliangiri trek from May 31.

Despite this, 94% of them have returned the deposit. It is noteworthy that during the cleaning work in Velliangiri hill area, about 6 tons of plastic materials and wet cloths were collected and disposed.
