This petition today Judge G. Jayachandran was heard. In his affidavit, the petitioner said, “The first FIR related to the interview was registered against him by the Coimbatore Cybercrime Police. He was accused of verbally abusing female constables. Subsequently, several cases were registered in different districts based on the same interview.”
Chawku Shankar complains
“If I have spoken deliberately, it will be subject to the decisions of the court,” the petitioner said. Chavku Shankar complained that despite the presence of video conferencing facilities in Puzhal Central Jail and courts, he was being deliberately taken to different courts with the sole purpose of harassment.
Thug Act
He said that since his arrest on May 4, several criminal cases have been registered against him and he has been lodged in jail. He also alleged that the thug law was enacted as a revenge.
Various cases
FIRs have been registered at police stations in Coimbatore, Trichy, Madurai, Dindigul, Kanchipuram, Villupuram, Perambalur, Nagapattinam, Nilgiris, Sivagangai, Nagapattinam, Salem and Tirunelveli. Chavku Shankar mentioned that it would be a difficult task for him to go to each district for each case.
Time for police to respond
It was further argued by Chavku Shankar that if bail is granted in one case, he is arrested in another case. In this situation, the court has given time to the police to answer whether all the cases have been registered for the same incident. Following this, the Madras High Court has ordered adjournment of the hearing on Chavku Shankar’s petition for three weeks.
