The film directed by actor Ranjith is Kaundampalayam. The trailer of the film has created a lot of controversy since its release. The film was heavily criticized for being anti-sectarian.
However, the release of the film was also delayed. Following this, Palanichamy, the producer of the movie Goundampaliyam starring actor Ranjith, filed a petition in the Madras High Court.
In the petition, “A group is warning that if our film is screened, they will protest in front of the theaters and damage the theater. Therefore, the theaters screening the film should be ordered to provide security.
Also, while the film was decided to be screened in 150 theaters across Tamil Nadu, theater owners backed off from releasing the film due to opposition from certain sections.
This film is not made against any caste religion language. Security should be provided for the screening of this film, which has a proper censor certificate,” he had said in the petition.
The case came up for hearing yesterday before Justice Jayachandran. At that time, the police said, “No cinema owners have lodged a complaint with the police. The petitioner also did not specify which cinema theater was threatened. It is impossible to provide security to all 150 theatres.
Judge Jayachandran then said, “If the film crew files a petition with the concerned police station regarding which theaters need security, then the theater should be provided with security.”
