Phase 2 Metro Rail Project
The first phase of metro rail service in Chennai is running on two lines, covering a distance of 54 km. Subsequently, the 2nd phase of the Metro Rail project is being implemented in Chennai. The construction work for this is going on. Accordingly, it is planned to complete the construction of 3 routes in Chennai. It will be constructed for a length of 116.1 km at a cost of Rs.63,246 crore.

This metro rail project is running on 3 routes namely Madhavaram Dairy Farm – Sirucherry Chipgad, Lighthouse – Poontamalli Workhouse, Madhavaram Dairy Farm – Choshinganallur.
Poontamalli – Borur Metro Rail Line
In this situation, in the second phase of the metro rail project, the metro rail administration is planning to bring the Poontamalli – Borur metro rail line on the 4th line into use in December next year.
Lighthouse – Poontamalli
Lighthouse – Poontamalli 4th route, Lighthouse to Kodambakkam flyover tunnel, Kodambakkam Powerhouse to Poontamalli bypass is being constructed.
Metro Rail tracks
Construction of tracks for the metro train is in full swing at places like Kumananjavadi, Ayyappan Thangal, Kattupakkam. Metro station construction work is going on in full swing at many places.
In this case, the Chennai Metro Rail Corporation is planning to bring the Poontamalli-Porur metro rail line to the public from December next year on the 4th route from Beacon to Poontamalli.
