A private company called Sakara City Developers has built houses in Saravanampatti, which is under the North Zone of the Coimbatore Corporation. During the period of 2009, when it was a municipality, the house was divided on the land of 10:5 acres. 10.5 acres of open space reserve site called OSR has been allotted.
It was handed over to the Corporation. This area was later merged with the Corporation and is functioning as the fourth ward. Meanwhile, Sahara City Developers have occupied the land allotted to the Corporation. The encroachment came to light while carrying out works including road development in the Saravanampatti area.
Coimbatore North Zone Chairman Kathirvel and 4th Ward Member of Parliament Kathirvelusamy have been collecting documents for illegal encroachment of land. This has been handed over to the higher authorities and he has received an order to recover the encroached lands. Based on that they recovered 10.5 acres of land occupied by Sahara City Developers worth 200 crores.
It is to be noted that while the Sahara City Developers were placed in it, the Corporation North Zone Assistant City Organization Officer Satya and the Corporation officials are engaged in the process of disposing of the belongings.
