A Delhi court on Saturday ordered Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to be remanded in judicial custody till July 12 as the three-day CBI custody in the excise policy case ended.
The CBI said in its remand application that Kejriwal was not cooperating during the custodial interrogation. For the Goa state elections in 2021-22, his party has spent Rs. “He also evaded questions regarding the transfer and use of ill-gotten gains to the tune of Rs 44.54 crore,” the central probe said.
It has been reported that Kejriwal is “deliberately avoiding fair and relevant questions related to the case”.
The CBI also said a prominent politician and “highly influential person” could influence witnesses or distort evidence in the case. In the interest of investigation and justice, it demanded that Kejriwal be jailed for 14 days.
Special Judge Sunena Sharma allowed the CBI petition.
Kejriwal will appear in court on July 12. On Wednesday, Kejriwal was sent to CBI custody for three days, a day after he was interrogated by the central agency in Tihar jail in a corruption case related to the excise policy.
Kejriwal was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on March 21 in a money laundering case related to the excise policy. Notably, he suffered a setback as the Delhi High Court on Tuesday stayed the trial court’s order granting him bail in a case filed by the Enforcement Directorate.
